There is Only One Mediator
by Pastor Greg Wilson
Many have grown up believing that God must be approached through various
and sundry mediators. They have been taught that He can only be reached
through a human priest. They have learned that for prayer to be answered
it must be addressed to the “Patron Saint” who has the oversight of their
particular area of need. There has even been planted in their minds a fear
of approaching Christ Himself, except through the mediatorship of His mother.
Established churches have long been able to turn these and other man-made
doctrines into great wealth, as can be seen by the magnificent Cathedrals
of Europe, and elsewhere. God’s revelation to mankind, the Bible, contains
no references to these pagan superstitions. Not once is anyone told that
they must make prayers through a human priest. Never do we find any instructions
concerning the offering of prayers to departed saints. No one in the New
Testament Church is ever recorded as having made even an appeal to the
Lord’s mother before her death, much less, a prayer to her after her death.
The Bible states: “For there is one God, and one mediator between
God and men, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). This Scripture
clearly indicates that we are to approach God through Christ Jesus alone.
The Bible never once instructs a believer to approach God through some
other man or woman.
If the Lord has awakened you to your need of a Saviour, I urge you to
turn to Christ now in repentance from your sins, and in faith of His atoning
death for His people on Calvary’s cross. You need not go through some human
priest. It is not necessary to pick your way through a maze of “Patron
Saints.” If you are bidden of the Spirit, you may come boldly to the throne
of grace by the blood of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 4:16; 10:19). You may personally
know the forgiveness of sins and the answer of prayer through the sole
mediatorship of Jesus Christ.
